If you could have anything on any of the M*A*S*H Season DVDs, what would you want? Personally, I think seeing any bloopers or outtakes would be great, and perhaps any scenes that were shot but then never broadcast, in other words, those scenes left on the cutting room floor. That is, if there are any, and they're available.

Of course, the unseen footage would be awesome. Too bad it's taking up space in some Fox wharehouse instead of going hours on end on my TV ;D Awesome site

You know what extra would be great? Audio commentary from the stars of the show! Especially Gary Burghoff's commentary for the 2-part "Good-Bye Radar." I have DVDs of M*A*S*H from the 1970 movie to the fourth season on CBS (1975-76). And do not doubt that more will be added (I started it; I might as well finish it!)!

Commentary would be awesome. Can you imagine the commentary for GFA, if they could get even half the cast together? That would be fantastic.

Along with commentaries and "bloopers," I think any interviews with the cast, directors and writers from the time would be great. Or even just some raw behind-the-scenes footage of read-thrus, rehearsals, alternate takes, etc. would be nice.

Or even just some raw behind-the-scenes footage of read-thrus, rehearsals, alternate takes, etc. would be nice. I believe those are called "dailies," the raw footage shot during each working day. I've seen some for Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and I must say it was an eye-opener, some of the shots had 5 or 6 takes!

That would be fascinating. As an occasional actor/director myself, I'd love to see some material of Alda or Linville trying to get a line just right, or the director asking the actors to do something in a different way.

i dont know if they would have any of these, but i have seen shows that still had the audition tapes of actors who made it to the show. but back then, maybe not...

Sadly, though, if such footage exists, there would be none for Alan Alda or Gary Burghoff. Alda was approached by the producers (not the other way around; I do not believe there was an audition) and Burghoff was a holdover from the movie.
It would be neat to see any such footage, though, should it exist. There has been some interesting behind-the-scenes footage in several of the documentaries, including the cast sitting around going over a script. It would be great to see more of that.

there is nothing on the DVDs that isnt on the VHS, except of course that you can choose which episode you want. also the later DVDs have a "Play All" feature, so you dont have to keep selecting the next episode and hitting play every 20 minutes.

Just about anything would be an improvement on the zero extras we get at the moment, but I'd especially love to see 'bloopers', interviews, on- (and off) set photos, the 'Making MASH' documentary that was made during Season 8, the ENTIRE footage from the 20th Anniversary and 30th Anniversary reunions, and commentaries for selected episodes. Wonder why FOX are so reluctant to produce a real 'Collectors Edition'. They can't even be bothered to produce decent images for the box covers!

I think they are also worried about not being able to move enough product. While it is fairly obvious that the M*A*S*H fan base is quite loyal (just look at the news page at FK to see how many DVDs have sold), we are not Trek fans, who are known far and wide for buying just about anything. The Trek DVD sets cost upwards of $100 a pop, and yes, they are for hour-long episodes, but regardless... the real reason they cost so much is A) extras and B) Paramount knows the fans will buy the sets no matter how much the price is.
How many M*A*S*H fans would spend an excess of $1000 to complete their collection of DVDs? As much as I love the show, I would never be able to spend that much money. At roughly $30 a piece, we are spending under $400. And the sets are selling. There was a big problem with The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season One DVD set not selling well. The thing cost a bundle to put together and a bundle to purchase, and the fans did not turn out in droves to pick up the set. Odds are pretty good the rest of the show may never see the light of day on DVD or, if it does, the seasons are split into two releases with no extras.
As much as I want to see outtakes and extra footage, interviews and documentaries, I would much rather have all the episodes uncut, in full, for cheap, on DVD.
Of course, this is coming from a guy who has M*A*S*H outtakes, news coverage of the final episode, and every documentary on VHS...
